Air Race Classic: USA's Only Women's Air Race

WARRENSBURG, MO (JUNE 16, 2016) – The annual all women’s “Air Race Classic (ARC),” started by Amelia Earhart, will be coming through Warrensburg, Missouri, June 21 – 23, 2016. The ARC is the core of women’s air racing, with pilots ranging in age from 17 to 90 years old competing in a cross-country race. Their goal is to make a “perfect” cross country flight.

Each race team, consisting of at least two pilots, must fly during daylight hours only and are given four days to make flybys at each timing point, and then land at the terminus. After the takeoff, teams strategize on how many legs of the race to fly each day, and which stop they are planning on spending the night along the route. Many obstacles can impede the race, such as weather, making it difficult to judge when the racers will arrive at each timing point, but there is map to help spectators determine where each team is in the route. The route is approximately 2,400 statute miles with 8 or 9 timing points, and the race route changes each year.

Spectators are welcome at Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport to see the race and welcome the teams to the community. There are no time specifics available, but you can track the racers to get an idea of their progress and arrival time to Warrensburg, Missouri.
