Public Art and Downtown Discoveries

Take a stroll through Warrensburg’s historic downtown, and you’ll encounter an ever-growing collection of murals, sculptures, and artistic installations that add character and color to the city.

Public art can be found in parks, along streetscapes, and throughout the historic downtown district! These art displays provide unique photo opportunities, as well as a glimpse into the community’s creative identity.

One notable art piece in the Burg is our famous Old Drum statue, located on the Johnson County Courthouse lawn, which is not only a beloved landmark, but also a tribute to the famous trial that inspired the phrase “man’s best friend.”  While downtown, you may also want to join a Warrensburg Main Street event showcasing the area’s arts. They offer several throughout the year!

Galleries, Museums, & History

Art and history come together in Warrensburg’s museums and galleries. The University of Central Missouri’s Gallery of Art & Design hosts numerous exhibitions each year featuring local, regional, national, and international artists. Visitors can enjoy rotating exhibits, artist talks, workshops, and community events that are free and open to the public.     
History enthusiasts can explore the Johnson County Historical Society Museum Complex and the Original Johnson County Courthouse, where the famous Old Drum trial took place.
